Heavily influenced by Hanna-Barbera villains, girl groups of the 1960’s and back-page wig ads from my sister’s True Romance magazines, the mediums of The Hairdo Project encompass painting, sculpture, drawing and printmaking, both relief and digital.

The Hairdo Project

Depicting conformity in the face of chaos, these pieces explores the struggle to balance the forces of artifice with the organic drives of nature and self. In some instances reduced to their most essential elements, in others a maelstrom bound by a defining contour, the works in THP survey the hairdo as the crowning glory of pre-feminist artifice.
